In 2024, Hanukkah will be celebrated in South Africa from sundown on Wednesday, December 25 to sundown on Thursday, January 2, 2025. 

Here are some traditions associated with Hanukkah:

• Lighting the menorah: On each night of Hanukkah, one more candle is lit on the menorah after sundown. The ninth candle, called the shamash, is used to light the others.
• Reciting prayers: A special prayer is recited during the lighting of the candles.
• Singing and playing games: Songs are sung and games are played while the candles burn, including the game dreidel.

Hanukkah is a Jewish festival that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. The word Hanukkah or Chanukah means "dedication".
